A Day in the Life of an Author OR New Gurgaon Chronicles Yesterday, 22nd November, was quite an authorly day! How? Just about wrapped up the finishing touches to my upcoming book of poetry, Canvassing Art, in terms of communications with the publishers, to fine-tune the work. Have been ideating on what the book launch and events connected to the book, Canvassing Art, could be (watch this space for announcements, contact me for collaborations!) Also responded recently to a formal letter of invitation from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in connection with a Certificate of Honour that my book, "SPIRIT OF THE CONSTITUTION: Fashions in Law, Politics, Environment, Winter/Spring 1998", will receive on Constitution Day, confirming my personal presence and attendance to receive the honour. Had a quick chat over the phone with my school friend, Sonia, whose husband is a best-selling author of crime fiction, and a lawyer, and exchanged notes on book-related events...I told her I was just about to leave for a book event in the neighbourhood, and proceeded to walk down to a wonderful session that was organized last evening by reading enthusiasts, a young couple who've moved to this housing society a year ago, in response to the announcement they'd made on the community App. for the event held at their home. The event was entitled: "Between the Lines: A Gathering Of Stories". People from eclectic academic backgrounds and ages talked about what they were reading at the moment, there was an introductory round on What's Your Spirit Animal convened by Swapnika (of SYAAHI_Ink stationery, if you go to Instagram), one of the hosts, followed by a creative way of zooming directly into concepts drawn from random lines in books, and speaking ex tempore on the topics that emerged! Kudos to the hosts, Swapnika and Rishabh for taking the initiative, for graciously serving the party elegant bites, organizing games which involved crafting well-planned book displays and a book roulette board, and for drawing participants from Ultima and beyond! Was delighted to share copies of some of the books I've written, and to contextualize some of my writings therein into the ongoing bibliophilic activities! V. Shruti Devi
