quick note on syria today

woke up to the news of the US having conducted targeted airstrikes on syrian airstrips.

while one is no expert, as a politician, one takes macro-views, and quick responses based on impressionistic views, if and when useful are put forward.

so without further ado or ceremony, here are somethings i just posted on my little-read (but open to all) facebook wall:

1.       The veracity of the videos, and the actual facts behind whether or not there were chemical attacks in syria, and who was behind those attacks if any, who carried out the attacks if any, needs to be ascertained.

2.       The world needs to take note of the fact that trump is capable of launching strikes on military areas without involving any formal or transparent decision-making process within his country (and outside it) as has just been done by the US airstrikes ordered by trump into syria.

3.       Analytically speaking, it is possible that if, indeed, there were chemical attacks that needed to be responded to, and if putin and assad and their respective recognized governments have lost control over unknown entities who might have carried out chemical attacks, then they might not oppose what trump (and, i suppose, the US government), has done by way of targeted airstrikes.

4.       However, the international community needs to be very, very cautious and vigilant about what it allows the USA to get away with, at each stage of its activities, as precedents get created by the minute.

5.       The chinese premier is in the US meeting trump, and modi the indian pm spoke to putin hours before the US carried out 59 targeted airstrikes on syrian airstrips. What do we need to read into this?
