My media brief #1 for media spokespersons on current Land Law in India

25th March, 2015. Fort Kurupam.

Media brief #1 from me for all media spokespersons on the topic of:

India, Central Govt. Land Law:

1. The existing ordinance should lapse, or better still, be proactively scrapped.

2. There should be a moratorium on all land acquisition until:

Personal and Community Property laws are made gender-just;

Forest Rights Act is adhered to;

Land use policy and natural resource allocation is aligned towards Justice and Sustainable Development.

3. As far as social impact assessment (SIA) is concerned, the existing Act needs to be amended so that:

SIA is conducted in a most democratic and proper way;

It should do full justice to gender-related and differently-abled-sector-related property and other rights (Individual as well as Community Rights);

Expand the scope and definition of Intangibles in the Act and also ensure that the emerging Economy reflects this form of valuation.
